I'm Paulette Jones, Financial Secretary
My Chronic
Kidney Disease journey started in 2016 at the age of 65. For
many years I had Hypertension or High Blood Pressure and on
medication. After visiting the Kidney Doctor one day my
blood lab report revealed that my
kidneys were failing.
The doctor called and told me to come to the ER right away.
A catheter was placed on my chest to start being dialyzed. A
week later I had a fistula port placed in my arm as a means
to continue dialysis treatments. This took six weeks to
mature to function.
Those 3 times a week treatments
were very exhausting. This went on for 4 years. I started
monitoring and researching information on this condition.
Eating correctly, lowering or cutting my salt intake,
watching my fluid intake, understanding lab blood report
levels in order for eligibility to be added to the waiting
list for a transplant.
I attended and was also guided
by the Team at Miami Transplant Institute Jackson Memorial
Hospital.
In 2020, I received a call early morning
from the hospital to tell me that a match was available for
me. I was told to get there as soon as possible. It has now
been three and a half years living with my transplanted
organ.
